Riga Aviation Forum’s Scientific Conference to Focus on Sustainable Development of the Industry

The Latvian Aviation Association, together with the Riga Technical University, the Transport and Telecommunication Institute and the Riga Aeronautical Institute, is committed to facilitate the development of innovative Latvian aviation research by organizing an annual scientific conference on aviation. This is evidenced by the cooperation agreement signed on January 10 this year, in which the parties agreed to promote the development of innovative Latvian aviation research and opinion leadership within European aviation.

The first ever Riga Aviation Forum’s Scientific Conference will take place on May 21, 2020. Organizers of the conference, in cooperation with its main sponsor airBaltic, have this year put the issue of sustainable aviation at the heart of the conference.

"The Riga Aviation Forum brand has already gained international recognition. Our future challenge is to support the development of new and aviation-related promotional work in Latvia. Organizing a scientific conference together with a business forum is a great opportunity for young scientists and academics to meet leading industry players and share ideas that could facilitate innovative projects and support the competitiveness of Latvian aviation in the global market",’ board member of the Latvian Aviation Association Artūrs Kokars said, commenting the signing of the cooperation agreement.

"airBaltic, as the leading airline in the Baltic region, is committed to support sustainable development of the aviation industry. We are pleased that a significant number of professionals are being trained in Latvia, and their intellectual contribution will make the global aviation industry more efficient. It is important for us to support young local scientists and provide them with a platform to share their research results", said Alīna Roščina, vice president of human resources at airBaltic.

"Riga Technical University (RTU) highly appreciates its participation in the organization of this scientific conference as an opportunity for RTU to present the research of our Aeronautics Institute to a wider audience, and to strengthen research capacity and leadership in the aerospace industry through collaboration with other universities and the aviation industry", says RTU Vice-Rector for Research Tālis Juhna.

"Training young aviation professionals and aviation research has been one of the priorities of the Transport and Telecommunication Institute (TSI) for 20 years. Our institute continues to develop this industry and we are proud to be one of just the three higher education institutions in Latvia that train aviation specialists. TSI has always been enthusiastic about new cooperation projects in the field of aviation and therefore we are very pleased to participate in the organization and of the Riga Aviation Forum’s Scientific Conference", TSI’s acting rector Juris Kanels says, commenting the organization of the scientific conference.

"Riga Aeronautical Institute is a higher educational establishment with rich, 70-year long history that is constantly developing and improving in the area of aviation and transport and continues to prepare aviation specialists with an opportunity to receive internationally recognized licenses and certificates. Signing of the agreement with the Latvian Aviation Association and related higher educational establishments in Latvia on development of innovative research in aviation helps to make a new step in order to combine forces in organization of scientific research and promote preparation of highly qualified specialists for the needs of Latvia and the European Union in the fast growing aviation sector", said Juris Maklakovs, the development pro-rector of the Riga Aeronautical Institute.

Ten years ago, aviation industry was one of the first sectors to start work on a global level in order to reduce its impact on the environment. Every year the sector invests considerable resources so that people, expertise and destinations are connected in a more efficient way. Considering the significant role of aviation in Latvia’s national economy, also the Latvian academic circles have the opportunity to provide their contribution to the global aviation development.

During the conference, a number of master classes led by the world’s renowned scientists will be organized. Researchers whose scientific work is related with aviation, starting from management, development of unmanned aerial vehicles and ending with application of mathematical modelling and econometric methods in aviation, are invited to apply.

In order to promote presentations of scientific papers, the best works will be published in a scientific journal issued by the Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, indexed in international scientific data bases, such as SCOPUS, WoS and others.
