Become an Air Traffic Safety Electronics Specialist

ATSEP, Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel, are technical specialists responsible for supporting the safe operation of communication, navigation, surveillance, data processing and other CNS/ATM systems. These systems form a critical part of air traffic management infrastructure and directly support the continuity and safety of aviation operations.

The ATSEP Initial Training Course at the RAI Training Centre is designed to provide the fundamental knowledge and professional foundation required to work in the technical environment of air traffic management and air navigation services. The programme covers both Basic Training and the shared subjects of Qualification Training.

Why choose RAI?

Riga Aeronautical Institute is a specialised aviation and transport education institution with long-standing experience in the training of aviation professionals. The RAI Training Centre provides structured professional training where theoretical knowledge is linked with the practical needs of the aviation industry.

ATSEP training is particularly important for ATM/ANS providers, as technical personnel work with safety-critical systems. The course is structured to help participants understand both the operational ATM environment and the technical logic, maintenance principles and human factors that support safe system operation.

What does the programme include?

ATSEP Initial Training consists of two main parts: Basic Training and shared Qualification Training subjects. Basic Training provides common knowledge of the ATM/ANS environment, the ATSEP role, air traffic services, aeronautical information services, meteorology, communication, navigation, surveillance, data processing and system monitoring principles. Shared Qualification Training subjects cover safety, health and safety, and human factors.
